Private Lessons at 119th Street

Up your game this season with some one-on-one instruction from coaches Steven and Byron!  Located in Riverside Park right down the staircase from 119th Street and Riverside Drive, the 119th Street Tennis Courts boast ten recently resurfaced hardcourts.  This lush and secluded spot in Morningside heights is a great option to complement the red clay.

Private lessons are $75.00 per hour. For semi-private lessons, the cost increases by $30 per extra player. (2 players - $105; 3 players - $135; 4 Players - $165). 4 total players is the maximum. Extra players must pay the additional fee prior to the lesson here: Select "Private - 119"

Steven is a pro tennis instructor with over twenty years experience in teaching and a strong playing background.  A highly capable tennis instructor with experience teaching all levels, he offers an encouraging teaching style along with practical playing skills.  Coach Steven prides himself on creating a dynamic learning experience for players and on his excellent record of reliability.

Book Byron Spence:  Weds/Thu/Fri/Sat - 7am to 2pm (except when coaching group lessons).

Byron is a veteran New York tennis coach with decades of experience at renowned facilities such as Midtown Tennis Club and Port Washington Tennis Academy. Originally from Jamaica, he played for Livingstone College in North Carolina, including matches against Clemson and Duke. Skilled at instructing players of all abilities and ages, Byron will improve your game and make sure you are satisfied with the results. Byron has even coached celebrities Anna Wintour of Vogue Magazine and Ralph Johnson of Earth, Wind and Fire! He looks forward to seeing you on the court this summer and becoming part of the Riverside tennis community.

Cancellation Policy: Cancellations with less than 48 hours notice will not be refunded. Please email if you need to cancel, you will be refunded (allow 5-10 days for processing) if it is more than 48 hours in advance.

Rain Policy: Lessons cancelled due to rain will automatically be refunded. No action is required, and you will receive the refund in 5 to 10 days after the rainout date.  If your lesson is rained out, you will receive a text or email notifying you. After a rainout, we encourage you to book a new lesson.

Prepaid Block of Lessons: In some cases, we are able to accommodate requests for a weekly lesson for a series of weeks or for the entire outdoor season. To inquire about booking a weekly lesson, email

Unauthorized teaching is not allowed on public courts. Anyone giving or receiving paid lessons or hitting are liable to lose all playing privileges.
